Steel Beasts Pro - Highlights
|
|
Terrain modeling |
|
|
Train on your own terrain! With Steel Beasts' integrated map editor,
you can create virtual terrain that closely matches the real-world terrain
of your local training ground or potential future combat zones. Steel Beasts Professional
can import DTED and ESRI Shape files, making it easy to quickly
create any terrain from your own database.*
Steel Beasts models elevation on a grid with 12.5 meter post spacing
(roughly equivalent to DTED level 3), with a vertical range capable of modeling
any place on Earth. DTED files of any level can be imported,
although levels below DTED 3 will obviously result in a
"smoothed" landscape. Map sizes for missions can vary from 6x6
km˛ to 50x50 km˛.
Steel Beasts currently offers two terrain themes (European woodland and
desert), each of which has 16 different ground types. The choice of
terrain theme for a particular map will not only dictate the available
ground types, but also the camouflage used by vehicles during a mission.
A variety of natural and manmade objects (trees, bushes, buildings,
bridges, etc...) can also be placed on the map, with more objects
currently in the works. Boulders and rock clusters can be placed to
create no-go terrain. Lakes, rivers and streams and dense
forests (both coniferous and deciduous) can also provide natural barriers
(although amphibious vehicles can swim across water).
Steel Beasts offers a variety of different road types, from dirt and
gravel, to single and multilane paved roads. Bridges can be created
automatically where roads cross water by using the "bridge
roads" feature.
Steel Beasts provides the option
to select visibility during missions from a maximum of 5,500m down to just 10m if necessary.
It is also possible to adjust the observer position in all virtual
crew stations, for example to move down to "chin defilade" in the unbuttoned
position of the M1 tank commander. |
